Gap of Dunloe, County Kerry, Ireland
The Gap of Dunloe road passes through farms and Killarney National Park between Macgillicuddy Reeks and the Purple Mountain. The narrow winding road up the glacial valley is a tourist attraction commercialised by horse drawn carts. The poneymen have used a rotation system since the 1920s called 'the Turn' to determine who takes the next customer. The road through the Gap is 11km from Kate Kearney’s Cottage, the tourist centre, and follows the River Loe which connects five lakes.
