Arnhem Land, Cape Don Lighthouse and fishing destination

 

The 28 meter high Cape Don Lighthouse was constructed in 1917, named in compliment to Lieutenant General Sir Gorge Don. There was the urgent need of a lighthouse, as the passage between the peninsula and Melville Island to Darwin was unlit. Cape Don Lighthouse was automated in 1983 and since than has been operated by solar cells. The the sparkling blue waters around Cape Don are renowned for light tackle sport fishing. Colourful cliff-lines, pristine beaches, mangroves and stunning scenery make
