Doris Miocinovic News :: Hawaii protesting shorter school year!
Hawaii Education Matters is a rally organized by parents of children who attend public schools in Hawaii and will be losing 17 days (Furlough Fridays) of class time due to the State of Hawaii budget cuts.
The people of Hawaii are signing a petition and organizing rally, calling upon the Governor, Legislature, Department of Education, Board of Education and Hawaii State Teachers Association to find the resources and funding necessary to keep Hawaii schools open, Hawaii teachers working, and Hawaii students engaged and educated. The people of Hawaii are asking to stop Furlough Fridays, and to educate, protect, and respect the children of Hawaii.
The protest will take place in front of Hawaii State Capitol on October 23, 2009 from 11 am to 1 pm. I am available to cover this event.
